Self-defense isn’t about winning a fight. It’s about making someone regret choosing you and giving yourself the chance to walk away safely.

This practical self-defense workshop focuses on recognizing danger, responding under stress, and creating the opportunity to escape.

You’ll learn:

  • How attackers choose targets and how to avoid looking like one

  • Combat psychology and how to move past the freeze response

  • Simple defensive blocks and controlling distance

  • Effective strikes using palms, knees, and elbows

  • Vulnerable target points and when to “play mean”

  • Basic escapes from common grabs

  • The use of everyday force multipliers and their legal considerations

  • The emotional and legal aftermath of a confrontation

No complicated techniques or strength required, just practical tools designed to help you act quickly and get yourself to safety.

Doors open at 7 PM and close at 7:45 PM, with the workshop beginning shortly after. DM a host for any issues with arrival.

This workshop is open to non-members and a great way to meet Night Owls!

You don’t need strength, size, or years of training to defend yourself. You just need to know where to strike, how to control distance, and how to respond decisively when someone makes a very bad decision.

About The Facilitator

David is an experiential education specialist, professional facilitator, neuromuscular therapist and trainer, and former adventure guide. As a professional educator and facilitator of over 15 years, David has worked across all areas of education and has founded or run multiple adult and youth education/recreation companies, and has trained hundreds of professional educators and thousands of participants around the world.

His teaching passions center around helping people explore/develop healthy interpersonal skills and somatic communication skills. His "Language of Touch" workshops cover topics including understanding myriad different kinds of touch and what they communicate, various kinds of advanced massage/body reprogramming, and kink/bdsm skills. His particular blend of experiential education, play, humor, and breadth of interdisciplinary knowledge make his workshops are always engaging, active, and accessible everyone.

Outside of work, David is an avid outdoorsman, martial artist, and dancer.

David also teaches Touch to Tingle: Partnered Er*tic Massage Workshop, one of Night Owls’ most highly sought-after workshops!

✨ I can no longer attend. Can I get a refund? Tickets are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable.

✨ I’m not a member, can I buy a ticket? For this event, yes. This event is open to non-members. For members-only events, you will need to supply the email address associated with your membership as part of the ticket-buying process. You can apply for free membership here: nightowlsmeet.com/join

✨ When can I know the address of the venue? The address of the venue will be sent to approved and confirmed guests during the week before the event. Make sure to monitor your spam folder just in case!

✨ Is the venue accessible? We aim to host events in accessible venues whenever possible and will always share accessibility details so guests can plan accordingly. Unfortunately, this event takes place in a 4th-floor walk-up building with no elevator, and the venue does not have wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. ✨ What do I need to bring to get in? Entry is only possible with your payment confirmation and photo ID. This will be cross-checked with our membership list. If there isn't a photographic match, there will be no entry. Entry is always at the management’s discretion.
